The metal workshop is part of the model-making workshops of the Industrial Design program at Folkwang University of the Arts. It enables a wide range of metalworking and processing. Medium to large metalwork can be carried out here using steel and metal composites. Thanks to the fully equipped machine park, models for initial visualization as well as functional prototypes can be quickly produced.
Getting started:
If you have any questions about metal, please contact Thorsten Poppe.
In order to use most of the machines, students must complete the Carpentry and Joinery Machine Course 1 (TSM1), which is offered by the Chamber of Crafts in the first semester. The model-making workshop/bench room is also accessible outside of workshop opening hours with a student ID and can be used without TSM 1.
Important: A general safety training course for the workshops and machines must be completed annually. This always takes place in the winter semester and dates are sent out as invitations to all students.
To supplement the safety training, students can watch videos on the individual machines and download a corresponding PDF, which can be signed and presented to the workshop managers to allow them to use the machines. This also allows you to get to know all the machines a little better, so feel free to click through.
