Design Futures Master of Arts (M.A.)

The Master's program in Design Futures at Folkwang University of the Arts is an interdisciplinary course of study that includes qualified academic engagement in design discourse and examination of social developments. A key element is the teaching of a design process that focuses on openness to results, personal engagement, responsibility, and the attitude of designers. This results in a content profile that focuses on the process-related concepts of experimentation, conception, implementation, and reflection (EKUR). In addition, the master's program offers free seminar and workshop modules that promote the independent profiling of students and their entry into various design professions. By passing on their experience and skills to students in lower semesters, students in higher semesters develop their own teaching skills in their subject. The Master's program in Industrial Design in the Design Department at Folkwang University of the Arts prepares students for professional fields ranging from authorial design to strategic consulting and entrepreneurship to the sciences.

Graduates have an individual attitude and reflective skills. They are able to set their own individual priorities within the complexity of the discipline and develop their own creative fields. The master's program is primarily aimed at graduates of design or art programs with a bachelor's degree. Due to the interdisciplinary nature of the master's program and the transdisciplinary issues it addresses, applications from graduates of design-related subjects such as engineering, natural sciences, social sciences, and humanities are welcome.
