Pott
Ausstellung am StudieninfotagExhibition: Study Information Day on January 24, 2025, from 2 to 6 p.m. in rooms 1.51b and 1.52 in the North Quarter at the Zollverein World Heritage Site
A collaborative project between the first-semester foundation courses in photography and product design.
The POTT exhibition is dedicated to the multi-layered concept of vessels, both in the literal and metaphorical sense, and invites visitors to question the meaning and function of "Pott" from different perspectives. The word itself becomes a playground for associations ranging from traditional containers to modern, functional, and artistic explorations of form and material.
POTT is a collaboration between students from the first semesters of the Product Design and Photography programs. The starting point was a joint visit to the Schaudepot in the Ruhr Museum, where, among other things, historical vessels from the region are on display. The term "Pott" has a deep cultural significance in the Ruhr region and stands not only for a vessel, but also for the region itself.
The POTT exhibition uses the freedom of artistic exploration to stretch and expand the concept of the vessel. Vessels are more than just containers—they carry stories, memories, and meanings. The interdisciplinary collaboration brings together the past and the future and encourages reflection on how we deal with materials. How can forms and techniques be reinterpreted? How does our perception of vessels change in the context of a changing world? The students thus question not only the form and function of the vessel, but also its cultural and social role in general – in a region that is transforming itself from an industrial stronghold to a post-industrial cultural and creative landscape.
